Union County has much to offer its’ residents in the area of health care, medical facilities and other health related resources.
Union General Hospital is a full service, community hospital operated by the Union County Hospital Authority. In 2001 Union General received the Rural Hospital of the Year Award. A $34 million dollar, 80,000 square foot expansion was completed in August 2006. Approved by both Medicare & Medicaid, this 45 bed hospital also contains a new emergency room with 11 rooms and 14 beds, 3 birthing rooms, a new Surgical Department, Clinical Laboratory and Diagnostic Imaging Department. A heliport pad is available for airlifting patients to larger hospitals when necessary. Off site there is also a Dialysis Center and Cancer Treatment Center. Union County Nursing Home is a 150 bed facility located next to Union General Hospital and is operated by the County. This facility offers services such as activities, dietary, lab, dental, therapeutic and occupational therapy on site to the residents. The nursing home is a non-profit facility with Medicare and Medicaid eligibility. They can be contacted at 706-745-4948.
Union County Health Department is part of the State of Georgia’s Department of Human Resources. The Health Department includes both medical and environmental health services. In addition to providing medical services such as immunizations, health care for women and children, lab services and a Child Safety Seat Program, the Environmental Health Department is responsible for water testing, rabies control, restaurant safety inspections and septic tank permits.
